Best Lawyers
Under 40

D Magazine is excited to honor our city’s up-and-coming attorneys. To compile our list of the Best Lawyers Under 40, we ask lawyers with a valid Texas Bar number to nominate up to two lawyers outside their firm and one within their firm, keeping the following question in mind: “Which lawyers under 40, of those whose work you have witnessed firsthand, would you rank among the current best?” Answers may include co-counsel, lawyers you have observed in court, and opposing counsel.

STEP 1

+ NOMINATIONS

D Magazine emails thousands of local lawyers from our online directory and email database, inviting them to nominate their peers on dmagazine.com.

Nominating lawyers must:

  • Have a valid Texas Bar number.
  • Currently practice within our geographic boundaries (view here).
  • Limit their nominations to a maximum of three lawyers per category (up to two lawyers outside their firm and one within their firm).

STEP 2

+ VETTING PROCESS

Votes are tallied and sorted by D Magazine’s editorial staff.

The staff does not count:

  • Self-nominations
  • Duplicate ballots
  • Nominees outside of our geographic boundaries (view here).

STEP 3

+ INDEPENDENT PANEL REVIEW

The remaining votes are vetted by an anonymous panel of esteemed lawyers. The panel changes every year to ensure consideration is impartial.

D Magazine editors finalize the list by verifying each lawyer’s:

  • Texas bar license
  • Disciplinary status
  • Age (all winners must be under the age of 40 throughout the calendar year of the award)
  • Length of practice (lawyers must have a minimum of five years’ experience)

STEP 4

+ NOTIFICATION

We mail and email congratulations letters to the Best Lawyers Under 40.

After notification, our sales team is allowed to view the list and offer advertising opportunities to winners.

We play fair:

  • Advertising dollars have zero impact on the creation of this list.
  • Best Lawyers Under 40 are featured in our January issue and marked as a Best in our online directory whether they advertise or not.

How do I make a nomination?

Nominations are now closed and will open for next year’s program in June 2025.

Who is eligible for this award?

Nominees must be under the age of 40 throughout the calendar year of the award. They must also be licensed lawyers with no disciplinary action on their record and have a minimum of five years of practice in the state of Texas.

Who can nominate the Best Lawyers Under 40?
Any licensed lawyer (of any age) within these listed areas. Link to Geographical Boundaries.

When will winners be announced?

Winners will be notified by mail and email in late September of 2024.
