Every year we ask esteemed members of the medical community to nominate their peers for public recognition. Our question is simple: to whom would you send your own family members for care? We’re looking for doctors who are both exceptionally skilled and compassionate.

A panel of esteemed healthcare professionals, as well as our editorial team, will review the nominations.

Winners will be featured in the October 2024 issue of D Magazine.

The Process

STEP 1

+ NOMINATIONS

D Magazine mails and emails letters to thousands of local doctors from our online directory and email database, inviting them to nominate their peers on dmagazine.com.

Nominating doctors must:

  • Have a valid medical license.
  • Currently practice in within our geographic boundaries (view here).
  • Limit their nominations to a maximum of three doctors per category.

STEP 2

+ VETTING PROCESS

Votes are tallied and sorted by D Magazine’s editorial staff.

The staff does not count:

  • Self-nominations
  • Duplicate ballots

STEP 3

+ INDEPENDENT PANEL REVIEW

The remaining votes are vetted by an anonymous panel of esteemed physicians. The panel changes every year to ensure consideration is impartial.

D Magazine editors finalize the list by verifying each doctor’s:

  • Medical license
  • Board certification
  • Disciplinary status

STEP 4

+ NOTIFICATION

We mail and email congratulations letters to the Best Doctors and Pediatric Specialists in Dallas.

After notification, our sales team is allowed to view the list and offer advertising opportunities to winners.

We play fair:

  • Advertising dollars have zero impact on the creation of this list.
  • Best Doctors are featured in our October issue and marked as a Best in our online directory whether they advertise or not.

Congratulations to all our Best Doctors and Pediatric Specialists

FAQ

How do I make nominations?

Nominations are now open. Please click the links above to access the ballots.

Do doctors pay to be on the Best Doctors and Pediatric Specialists list?

No, doctors can’t pay to be on the list. After the D Magazine editorial staff finalizes the list, it is given to our sales department, which invites doctors to buy profiles. These profiles appear elsewhere in the magazine, labeled as paid advertising. But whether the doctors advertise has no bearing on the list. The editorial staff does not know who purchased a profile until the magazine is in the final stages of production.

How do you decide who will be on the list?

The list of Best Doctors and Pediatric Specialists begins with a peer voting process. We mail a letter to almost 10,000 local doctors from our online directory, inviting them to vote using an online ballot. Doctors can vote for up to three individuals in each category. The nomination form asks them to cast a vote keeping in mind the following question: which Dallas doctors would you trust with the care of a loved one? When voting closes, our editors tally the votes, and any self-nominations or duplicate ballots are discarded. We then present the tallied list to a panel of esteemed physicians. The panel and D Magazine staff review the tallied results and decide on the finalists. Once the list is finalized, we confirm each doctor’s Texas medical license status and board certification and investigate his or her disciplinary status.

How do you pick the categories?

We present the categories to our panel of doctors each year to make certain we’re not leaving out a worthy category. New specialties are added as appropriate, with a focus on those that would be most useful for our readers.

How does the panel process work?

A panel of esteemed physicians reviews the list. The panel is anonymous to encourage open discussion regarding the doctors on the list. If the panel says that a doctor with a lot of votes is nonetheless not worthy of this recognition because of poor performance or any other reason, we investigate the doctor’s disciplinary history and professional record further. If a doctor who is a leader in his or her field did not receive enough votes, the panel can recommend the doctor be added to the list. Final decisions are deferred to the editorial staff of D.

How do you prevent cheating?

Our online ballot process records each voter’s IP address. If we notice a suspicious pattern, we investigate. There have been instances where doctors were taken off the list because of ballot stuffing either by a doctor or by a doctor’s hospital.

Does D Magazine check the doctors on the list?

Yes, each doctor is checked against the Texas Medical Board’s database for pending disciplinary action and license status. If a doctor is being investigated or is on license suspension, we remove the doctor from the list. If the doctor has past disciplinary action, we investigate the action and determine whether he or she stays on the list on a case-by-case basis.

What if I don’t see my doctor on the list?

The list is by no means inclusive. If you don’t see your doctor on the list, and if he or she is someone you like and trust, you should stick with your doctor. If your doctor made the list last year but not this year, it does not mean you should stop seeing him or her. The process of selection starts over every year.
